Lexicon books is Alice Burdick, Anne-Marie Sheppard and Jo Treggiari. We joined together in May 2015 to open an independent bookstore in lovely downtown Lunenburg. We've hand-picked books to reflect our passion for quality & variety. Fiction, nonfiction, poetry, small press, graphic novels, young adult & children's books are our focus. Both Jo and Alice are published authors themselves, and Anne-Marie is a children's book enthusiast and former lawyer.
Lexicon Books stands in solidarity with refugees and immigrants, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, and those who abstain from religion, people who identify as LGBTQIA, First Nations people, people of colour, people with disabilities, and survivors of sexual violence. A diversity of people makes for a healthy community.
“The true author, in other words, does not augment some spiritual or bookish world, but the real world, because he responds to it. In other words, a true author never stands only in the history of ideas, he is part and parcel of History.” - Hannah Arendt, Lecture Notes for History of Political Theory, Library of Congress Archive, box 39
"I'm grateful that, after an early life of being silenced, sometimes violently, I grew up to have a voice, circumstances that will always bind me to the rights of the voiceless." - Rebecca Solnit, Men Explain Things to Me
